INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY AT LILIESLEAF

The ANC’s liberation strategy was built on four pillars: mass mobilisation, armed struggle, underground organisation, and international solidarity. Support from countries around the world—through political pressure, exile, training, humanitarian aid, and funding—was crucial in defeating apartheid and securing South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994.
The pandemic has reminded us that global challenges cannot be solved through inward-looking politics or selfish indifference. Progress depends on rebuilding multilateralism grounded in solidarity, shared interests, and collective responsibility. Through its solidarity exhibits, Liliesleaf honours the international support that helped defeat apartheid and seeks to reignite those bonds of global solidarity today.
